Headquartered in Scottsdale, Ariz., Massage Envy brings therapeutic massages out of the elite and makes them available to anyone interested in their wellness through a membership plan similar to those offered at health clubs. Members can enjoy an unlimited number of Swedish, sports and other massages, along with massage discounts for family members and other benefits. Massage Envy currently boasts more than 90,000 active members, and has 2,000 registered therapists nationwide.
“We have a business model that makes massages convenient and affordable,” said John Leonesio, the company’s founder and chief executive officer.
Massage therapy is a $6 billion to $11 billion industry, according to statistics from the American Massage Therapy Association. During the past year, approximately 47 million American adults received a massage for everything from stress reduction and pain relief to overall relaxation.
“We believe everyone should be able to take advantage of the therapeutic and stress-relieving benefits of massage therapy, which is why we created this category,” said Leonesio.
Thai and Peter Nguyen, franchise owner of the Coppell clinic, were delighted to help Massage Envy celebrate its two millionth milestone. Massage Envy is the first national franchise that brings therapeutic massages to the masses. The $100 million company has 143 operating clinics and 430 franchises in 30 states.
