Tomorrow is Valentine’s Day and whether you’re celebrating with a significant other, friends, family, or your most important loved one – YOU – you’ll want to feel confident in your own skin. Here are a few tips to help you achieve that healthy, confident Murad glow:
First, hydration is the key to healthy skin no matter your skin type or skin concern. I tell my patients to eat their water by incorporating more raw fruits and veggies into their diets, which ultimately helps keep them hydrated for longer periods of time. The body is almost sixty percent water, and the skin is the body’s largest organ. Healthy skin is hydrated skin!
Try an exfoliating face mask to dissolve tired cells and free the skin’s surface of trapped impurities. After the mask, don’t forget to moisturize. Especially during this time of year when your skin tends to be dry, it is important to moisturize in the morning and at night.
Keep your hands off your face to avoid clogging pores with dirt, oil and bacteria. Picking pimples will only irritate your skin more and spread the infection deeper. If you feel a pimple coming on, use a spot treatment to speed the healing of stubborn blemishes. If a blemish has already appeared and you want to cover it up, make sure you use a product that contains salicylic acid to help the skin heal.
Get your beauty sleep as it is necessary for your body to rejuvenate and stay healthy. Sleep deprivation is known to cause puffy eyes, dark circles, sallow skin and under-eye lines. During sleep, when our bodies do not have to focus on the myriad of tasks we ask of them during waking hours, they are able to direct their attention towards restoration.
Let yourself be happy and truly feel the energy of love – shouldn’t be too hard on Valentine’s Day, right? Nothing is stronger than the healing power of love; and nothing is better than sharing the feeling of love with others. I always tell my patients “healthy skin is a reflection of overall wellness; and 80% of health resides in the brain.”
After your night out, don’t forget to wash off your makeup. Few things can dull your complexion or clog your pores faster than not removing your makeup at the end of the night. Even when you’re especially tired, make it a habit to take your makeup off for overall healthy skin.
Wishing you a happy journey on the path to healthy, beautiful skin this Valentine’s Day!
