You could say that moving 2,000 miles across the country, searching for a house for 7 months with 4 failed attempts at buying one, and being in a long distance relationship with your husband is stressful. Add on everyday life like cooking, laundry and cleaning, well, it becomes overwhelming.
Now, I don’t know about you but I need as much help as I can to keep stress away. It’s all fine and dandy to eat right, exercise, and take your vitamins, but there’s something about my body that keeps stress in my shoulders and neck. It doesn’t matter how much I stretch them, relax them or take bubble baths, there’s nothing that repairs the damage as much as a good massage.
That’s when I knew it was time. It was time for my monthly massage. Yup, you read that right, MONTHLY.
Let me back up a couple months. My friend and I were talking about how much stress we were under. And then she said, “I can’t wait for my massage on Sunday.” I asked where she was going to get her massage. She replied “Massage Envy”.
So, I went with my friend to Massage Envy. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve been to Massage Envy before on multiple occasions but never signed up for one of their memberships. I just didn’t see how I could fit it in. To me it was another “to-do”, even if it was a massage.
We arrived at Massage Envy and I felt like I was at home. The Spa looked almost identical to the Denver location I’m used to (and if you couldn’t tell by now, I’m moving to Boston)! So, it was definitely nice to have that comfort of similarity and consistency when my life is full of chaos without even trying.
We were instantly greeted with warm neck wraps and the offering of tea or water. I wish my doctor offices provided that kind of service when I fill out paperwork.
The massage therapist and I went over my paperwork and my medical history in great detail. She listened to my area of concerns, asked detailed questions about my pain level, and respected that I have arthritis and have had it for 13 years. I wasn’t expecting that level of detail with my condition, but I was grateful she provided it.
So, let’s get to the good details of this story. How was my massage?
Well, my massage therapist took her time working on my shoulders to remove the knots which instantly relieved the pain I had in my back. I could feel the stress quickly slipping away and it was at that moment I made a decision to sign up for their monthly membership.
To this day I haven’t regretted it. Every time I go, they always improve upon the last massage I had. I truly believe it’s because they have a deep understanding of my likes and dislikes. My areas of pain and discomfort. My health and wellness goals. My stress. My arthritis.
It’s nice to know I have a massage therapist on my “health-to-wellness” journey with the understanding that I may have arthritis but it does not have me. It’s extremely comforting that I can travel around the country to any one of the Massage Envy Spas and will be greeted with the same consistency, same level of respect, but most importantly, the same quality. Something I need, especially facing all of this change in my life.
As I plan my road trip across the country with my husband and three black labs in tow, I’m secretly planning at least one stop that’s near a Massage Envy. After all, who wouldn’t want a massage in the middle of their 2,000 mile road trip?
