Massage and ME: Moving Past the Pain

Massage and ME is column running in our ME Magazine that highlights inspirational member stories. What’s your story? Tell us how massage improves your life and you could be featured in our next segment. Send an email to memberstories@MassageEnvy.com with your name, phone number and a brief description of how you benefit from being a Massage Envy member. We’ll take it from there.

AS A CASHIER and part-time night manager, I spent many hours of my day bending, twisting, lifting and standing. But one day, one of the heavy objects I lifted proved to be too much. I was suddenly injured, facing severe back pain and an early retirement. There were days when I could hardly walk, and among other back problems, I had a herniated disk.

Finally, laser surgery brought relief. I continue to see a chiropractor, but it’s my monthly massages at Massage Envy that I look forward to the most. I became a member in 2011 after moving from Ohio to Florida. I always wanted to get regular massages, and after I hurt my back, I felt they were exactly what I needed.

At the start of each massage, my therapist, Tracy, asks me what areas of my body (especially my back) need attention. And my lower back always feels wonderful after a massage with her, especially when I add AromaTherapy. Lavender is my go-to relaxation scent because the massages aren’t only about keeping my muscles relaxed. They’re also about keeping my mind at ease, too.

Now, I feel as if I’ve gotten my life back. I can devote more time to the things I love. I walk a lot, which is often how I get to Massage Envy since I live so close. I love spending time at the beach, and I paint. I enjoy doing portraits, but I’m also experimenting with a replica of Vincent van Gogh’s Starry Night.

I’m a firm believer in the benefits of regular massage. Now if only I could get my husband in for a couple’s massage, I know he would be hooked for life, too.

  1. Massages are great for relief, and when you couple them with the help of a chiropractor you’re usually going to be feeling brand new.

  2. I’ll have to look into reading your magazine! I enjoyed this story, thanks.
