Wedding Wellness

When you are in the midst of planning your wedding, it is easy to start to feel overwhelmed. With all the decisions to be made, it can start to seem like all the attention is on the details, from the dress to the caterer to the honeymoon, and not on your health and happiness. But you can turn that around by taking the time to focus on your own wellness.

First, remember there aren’t any shortcuts to looking and feeling better. It is going to take time and perseverance, particularly when you are talking exercise, but even with relaxation. Our world demands us to always be on and connected. Walking away from that can be hard to do for some.

Start by figuring out your goal. Is it to shed a few pounds? Or do you want to tighten your arms and back muscles to make that strapless gown look really great? Maybe you’re simply interested in staying calm in the weeks and months before the wedding? Whatever you want to accomplish, write down your goal and schedule workouts like you would any other important appointment can help.

Having a friend along for the ride can help keep you going, too. So enlist your husband-to-be or a friend, as long as you know they will take your commitment to feeling better as seriously as you do.

Next, think about ways to incorporate relaxation into your life, like massage. Having those moments where you aren’t thinking about the wedding can not only help you relax, but it can also help you relieve stress. Just one 90 minute massage session can significantly lower your heart rate, cortisol levels and insulin levels—all of which help reduce stress. Additionally, massage triggers a host of brain chemistry responses that can result in lasting feelings of relaxation, lowered stress and improved mood.

And after all, you want your wedding to be a joyous occasion. The more you do to keep yourself healthy, relaxed and happy, the more likely you are to have a wonderful wedding day, filled with family, friends and memories that will last a lifetime.

  1. Awesome recommendations! I sometimes feel as stressed as a pre-wedding bride and groom, but de-stressing is so important to keeping your mind clear of all of the junk and bad stress. Nice post!

  2. This reminds me of the importance of keeping a workout buddy around to encourage each other to stay in shape! Excellent article, I’ll pass it along to my friends going through planning a wedding!

  3. It’s so good to keep in mind how important it is to get rid of stress, focus on keeping in shape and stay happy. 90 Minute massages are my favorite, as soon as I lay down on the massage table, my stress melts off.

  4. This is the perfect bog for anyone who wants to find out about this topic.
You understand a whole lot its almost hard to argue with you (not that I actually
would want to…HaHa). You definitely put a new
spin on a subject that’s been discussed for many years. Great stuff, just excellent!
