Whether you’re planning a ski vacation or training outdoors for a marathon, it is important to know how to take of your skin in harsh winter weather conditions. We called upon the skincare experts at Murad® for some tips to keep skin healthy and happy, despite the drop in temperature.
Most importantly, don’t skip the sunblock. In the winter, the sun goes down earlier and the clouds may make the day seem darker. Therefore, we’re not as aware of the UV rays.
In fact, if you live in a climate with snow, you may actually be experiencing twice the UV exposure in the winter that you do in the summer. We suggest choosing a moisturizer that includes SPF to stay hydrated and help prevent damage.
Make sure to protect your eyes. A comfortable pair of sunglasses with UV protective lenses should be part of your workout wardrobe to help reduce the chances of developing eye wrinkles later in life.
For even more protection, slip on a lightweight hat or visor that is designed to absorb sweat. This will ensure you’re protected from the sun’s rays even when outside for an extended period of time.
Pay special attention to your lips too. They don’t produce moisture like the rest of your face. Use a lip balm (with, of course, SPF protection) when you’re outdoors, and then apply a moisturizing lip treatment immediately when you come in from the cold.
Once indoors after your exercise, use a gentle skin cleanser to prevent causing any further irritation to sensitive skin. After cleaning, apply a Vitamin C moisturizer, such as Murad Essential-C Day Moisture SPF 30, to replenish antioxidants and immediately combat the damage done by sun and environmental exposure.
