There's no place like home. There's no place like …
Wait. If you're looking to transform your home into an inspiring
haven of relaxation, you don't need to click your red ruby slippers
together three times. All you need is simple math.
What to subtract. Don't underestimate the
mood-lifting power of a good spring cleaning. Derrick Denis, vice
president of the Indoor Air Quality Association in Rockville, Md.,
says that simply running the vacuum and having your heating,
ventilating and air conditioning system cleaned can do wonders for
your indoor air quality. Next, a rapid fire de-cluttering is in
order. Recycle old magazines, donate unused clothing, books or
toys, and simplify.
Now the fun begins. Invite Mother Nature's
calming influence indoors with waterfalls, fountains, plants and
ample sunlight through windows, skylights or solar tubes. Natural
stone, bamboo and grasses can add artistic flair and freshness.
Next, try adding candles, meaningful photographs and soft fabrics
such as silks or cotton to create comfort and calm the senses.
