Mix Up the Routine As You Age

Aging well means aging actively, and retirement is a perfect
time to explore new hobbies. From volunteering at a school or
learning a new language to taking up French cooking or registering
for a salsa dancing class, adding something new to your routine can
lead to healthier minds and bodies, according to AARP. Give these
activities a try:
CHALLENGE YOUR BRAIN
Working on a puzzle can help enhance motor skills, polish
coordination, strengthen spatial relations, improve memory and
sharpen verbal reasoning. Try a puzzle a day to flex your mental
muscles.
TRADE THE TREADMILL FOR THE DUMBBELL
Experts estimate that by age 65, people lose up to 25 percent of
their peak strength. Increase your power by working diff erent
muscle groups-arms, chest, legs, stomach and back-two or three
times a week. And try various methods of strength training, such as
resistance bands, dumbbells, body bars and stability balls.
MELLOW OUT
Mayo Clinic recommends massage as a way to reduce stress, reduce
stiffness, increase immunity, control blood pressure and lessen
anxiety and depression. Treat yourself to boost your body's
superpowers.
