Q & Ahhh
Massage Envy experts answer your questions
Q: I enjoy weekly massages but need tips on turning off my
thoughts during the massage. Help!
A: We are all going at such a fast pace these days-we constantly
have to be thinking, planning and doing. All this activity, without
proper rest, puts so much extra strain and stress on the body and
mind. Having massage on a regular basis is a very therapeutic way
to provide yourself with much-needed quiet time.
First, schedule your massage at a time when you know you can
relax for a while afterward. If you are worried about something you
have to rush to right afterward, you won't be able to fully immerse
in the experience. During the massage, close your eyes and try to
keep them closed throughout. When your eyes are open, it's easy to
get distracted from focusing on the massage experience. Breathe
deeply, with slow rhythmic inhales and exhales. This will start a
calming process physically. Anytime you find your mind gearing up
during the massage, go back to deep breathing.
