I have been in the fitness industry for a long time as a trainer and a yoga instructor. I was training for my first marathon and I had a soft tissue knee injury, so I went to see a chiropractor who was specifically trained in soft tissue release. I was so impressed with the results that I became motivated to become a massage therapist. I wanted to learn how to help myself and my fitness clients. That experience of receiving bodywork was magical. I had no idea that it could be so effective for an injury. That is when I knew massage was something that I was going to have to learn to keep my own body going for the long haul.
Before Massage Envy, I worked at a day spa and I did not feel like I was utilizing all of my skills. I tend to lean more toward the therapeutic side of massage and focus mostly on sports injury and injury prevention. I decided to work for Massage Envy because I can do more customized work every day.
Massage Envy has been great. It has probably been the best decision that I ever made. Between the people that I have met and the way that I have grown as a therapist, it is the best thing I have done.
I know that there's going to be stability and I know what to expect. At the same time, my franchisees are always willing to listen to our ideas.
My franchisees are really great in that they give us a lot of structure. I know that there's going to be stability and I know what to expect. At the same time, my franchisees are always willing to listen to our ideas. Our therapists and estheticians work really well with the new graduates right out of school. It shows us how far we have come as leads when we are able to train someone new. The front desk staff make our job easier. We could not do what we do on our end if they did not do what they do. They are a really important part of our job because they are organized, ready to greet everyone, and are great at multitasking.
My favorite clients to work with have a sport-specific injury, repetitive strain injury, or an injury that is related to a muscular imbalance or inhibited muscle groups. These are my favorite clients because I like problem-solving. You have to try to figure out what is going to work best, where the dysfunction is, and how to fix it. Those are the sessions that are the most rewarding because you can really help somebody on their path to their next big adventure. Immediate results are the best part of the job.
I would say a good day at work for me is when you get to see clients that you have already built a relationship with. They come in to see you and they are excited about it and you're excited about it because you know that there are things that you can help them with and you can make their day better. Sometimes there are immediate results and that is the best. Sometimes it is just a matter of pumping somebody up so they can leave stronger or a bit more relaxed, sending them back to their families, back out into the world feeling a little better. That is a good day for us.
