Juneteenth 2021 Holiday Message from Massage Envy

Juneteenth reminds us that collectively, we can be a force for positive social change.

To the Massage Envy Family:

As we observe the Juneteenth holiday, I think it’s important to reflect on the historical importance of this date and the work that remains to be done. Juneteenth is the oldest known commemoration marking the end of slavery in the United States. Since then, it’s become a meaningful moment in time for celebration and reflection among the Black community.

Juneteenth reminds us that collectively, we can be a force for positive social change. For example, on Friday, June 18, corporate employees are being given that day for the specific purpose of self-study and reflecting on some aspect of diversity, equity and inclusion.

As people around the U.S. are reflecting and learning about the importance of the holiday and the need for more action to break down systemic racism, we at Massage Envy have taken actions to do our small part. In the last year, we’ve worked to educate our corporate employees and build the corporate team’s anti-racism acumen through training, bi-weekly group discussions and guest speakers. I’m thrilled to report this program has taken off in an organic, grassroots way with much of the content now being driven by employees. Additionally, we’ve worked with noted diversity leader Eric M. Bailey to build a Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Forum where our franchisees can discuss and share experiences that help strengthen sensitivity and awareness. In fact, just this month the Forum published its first newsletter.

For Massage Envy, the efforts we’ve put into this past year are only the start – there is much more hard work to do on our diversity, equity and inclusion journey, and we look forward to continuing this important work.

Sincerely,

Beth Stiller
